Two more Citroen dealers in court

Two more Citroen car dealers have appeared in court on foot of an investigation by the Competition Authority in relation to an alleged prize-fixing cartel.

Brian Smyth of 8 Castlelands, Balbriggan, Co Dublin and Michael Patrick Gibbs of 11 Upper Carrickhill Road, Portmarnock, Co Dublin appeared before Dublin District Court today.

The company Gowan Motors (Parkgate) Ltd, of which they are directors, was also charged. Each of the accused faces two summonses alleging that they are entered into an undertaking that aimed to prevent, restrict or distort competition in the motor vehicle trade by directly or indirectly fixing the selling prices of Citroen vehicles. The are also alleged to have implemented such an agreement.

A second company, Finglas Motors M50 Ltd also faces two summonses. Judge Elizabeth McGrath adjourned the matters until March 12th to allow preparation of a book of evidence.
