McDonald's has announced that its Q4 profit rose by more than expected to $1.27 billion.

The US fast-food giant said its profit was boosted by slightly higher US sales. It also saw an 11.4% annual rise in food sales at its outlets across Asia/Pacific, the Middle East and Africa.

Overall revenues for the October-December quarter rose 6% to $5.75 billion as same-store sales around the globe increased 6.7%.

The firm did, however, record a 32% annual fall in profit last year. Its diminished performance of $2.39 billion was partly due to a write-off associated with the sale of company interests in Central America and South America.
