Third of CEOs 'unprepared' for role

A survey of Irish business leaders has found that one-third of chief executives felt they were unprepared for their role when they were appointed.

The survey of 70 CEOs from private, semi-state and non-profit organisations was carried out by executive coaching company Praesta Ireland.

More than a third of CEOs also said they found it difficult to keep 'strategic focus' under pressure.

40% of CEOs said the most important thing they had learnt was the value of choosing their top team well. 75% had brought in new members to their top team from outside, while two-third had moved quickly to remove 'under-performing' senior executives.
