'Teething problems' hold Kenmare back

Mining company Kenmare says it has experienced 'teething problems' at its Moma mine in Mozambique.

The mine was handed over to Kenmare last August and the first two shipments of the mineral ilmenite were made in December.

But Kenmare said this morning that power dips and problems with mining equipment had prevented the company from increasing production. The plant is operating at reduced levels until two vibratory screens are replaced. The replacements are expected by the end of March.

Despite what it called 'temporary setbacks', Kenmare said it expected to be in full production within the next six months.
