One of the few remaining independent supermarket chains in the North, Curleys, has been sold to British retail giant Sainsbury in a multi-million-pound deal.

Curleys, which is owned by the Kennedy family, began 40 years ago as a corner shop in west Belfast.

It operates grocery shops, off-licences and petrol stations at 21 sites and employs nearly 600 people.
