Ireland's trade surplus widened by more than 28% to €2.545 billion in October from the September figure, according to data released by the Central Statistics Office.
The trade surplus had narrowed by almost over 14% in September from August.
Exports increased month-on-month by 9.0% in October to €7.588 billion, while imports increased 1.0% to €5.043 billion.
The data released by the CSO gave first estimates for October and final figures for September.
A comparison of the January-September figures with the same period last year showed imports of transport equipment increased 128% and computer equipment fell by 10%.
Imports from both Britain and the US rose by 4.0% during the same period.
