Quinn-Direct to refund 13,000 customers

Quinn-Direct is to refund 13,000 customers after incorrectly calculating refunds due to them when they cancelled their motor insurance policies.

Quinn says the total amount to be refunded is €293,000 on 18,500 policies with the average refund being €15.77, plus compound interest.

The insurance company says the refunds relate to the period from January 2001 to February 2006, with the maximum refund amounting to €25 - plus compound interest.

The company says these refunds do not relate to the recent court case involving Quinn Insurance and the Financial Services Ombudsman.

Quinn said it discovered the errors during an internal review. It is to write to all affected customers in the coming days with details of each error and the amount owed to them.

Quinn Insurance has also reported the matter to the Financial Regulator.
