Aer Lingus has signed a new deal with Airbus for 12 new planes for its long-haul expansion plans. Under the deal, Aer Lingus also has a right to buy another six planes.

The airline is going to buy six new A330 planes and six A350 planes. The planes would normally cost over $2.33 billion, but Aer Lingus says it has received price concessions from Airbus.

Delivery of the A330s will begin in 2009 until 2011 and the six A350s will have delivery dates from 2014 to 2016.

Aer Lingus said the new planes are consistent with its continued planned growth strategy and its plan to replace its older fleet with new aircraft.

Aer Lingus shares closed down three cent to €2.20 in Dublin this evening.
