Shareholders in mining group Kenmare have backed a resolution to remove Donal Kinsella as a director of the company.
The vote at an extraordinary general meeting in Dublin was almost 99.5% in favour of the proposal.
The company's board had already removed Mr Kinsella from his position as chairman of its audit committee in July.
That decision followed a complaint made by company secretary Deirdre Corcoran against Mr Kinsella following an incident at Kenmare's Moma mine in Mozambique in May.
After an investigation, chairman Charles Carvill sought and received a written apology from Mr Kinsella to Ms Corcoran, but he also asked Mr Kinsella to resign as chairman of the audit committee, where Ms Corcoran is secretary. Kenmare said Mr Kinsella's voluntary resignation 'had not been forthcoming'.
In a statement later, Mr Kinsella described his treatment as 'shabby and unfair'.
'I look forward to the ultimate restoration of my good name and character along with substantial damages in the High Court,' he added.
