Industrial earnings rising by 5%

The number of people working in industry in June was 241,700, according to the Central Statistics Office. This was a drop of 100 compared with a year earlier.

The seasonally adjusted figure showed that industrial employment fell by 300 between March and June.

Separate CSO figures showed that average weekly industrial earnings in June were €627.24, up 4.9% on a year earlier. The average hours worked fell 0.2% in the same period.

The figures also show that Men in industry typically earn 44.7% more than women despite working for an average of just four hours per week longer.

According to the data the average wage for men is €682 while the average wage for women is €471 per week.
