In what it acknowledges are ambitious plans for Irish businesses Enterprise Ireland is targeting a new level of export sales for its assisted companies for the three years from 2008 to 2010.
In its Strategy Document for indigenous firms for 2008 to 2010 EI also targets a doubling of the number of high potential start-ups to 200 from 100; and it suggests that 55 firms will be spending €2m a year on research and development.
It also wants to encourage internationalisation of the services sector so it can further contribute to economic growth, and it wants to increase by 15% its number of client companies reaching annual global sales of €5m to 635 companies.
Despite this growth, EI predicts job number reductions in the traditional areas of industry.
On RTE's Morning Ireland today Enterprise Ireland's Julie Sinnamon said that in employment terms its companies 'would be doing well to remain static'.
