SHANNON BODY ANGRY WITH DAA - A row is brewing over the fact that the Dublin Airport Authority did not tell the Shannon Airport Authority that it had wind that Aer Lingus was abandoning its Shannon-Heathrow route.
The DAA confirmed to RTE it knew in mid-June there was a possibility that Shannon would suffer as Aer Lingus examined options for new bases. Aer Lingus announced in August that it was halting the Shannon-Heathrow service.
Tadhg Kearney, a director of the Shannon Airport Authority, said he was appalled at what he called a 'breach of faith' by the DAA. He said an emergency board meeting of the Shannon body was being arranged for tomorrow to discuss the issue.
Mr Kearney said the DAA's explanation had 'very little credibility', describing it as a 'conflicted party' which was more concerned with its relationship with Aer Lingus.
The DAA owns Shannon Airport, but the Shannon Airport Authority runs the airport. Mr Kearney called for Shannon and Cork to now be given their full independence.

RIVER MEDIA PLANS MORE TITLES - A company called River Media is about to open its 12th new regional newspaper title tomorrow. It is the Meath Post and it will go head to head with the Meath Chronicle.
River Media director Tim Collins said he was confident about the advertising market over the coming years despite the downturn in the economy.
Mr Collins said his company had one more planned launch 'on the east coast' before the end of the year, and a further five or six titles by the end of 2008.
