Menu changes lift McDonald's sales

Fast-food giant McDonald's has reported that net profits rose 7% to $1.07 billion in the third quarter compares with a year earlier. The improvement came as overall sales strengthened worldwide.

The profit, excluding once-off gains and losses, was in line with  Wall Street forecasts at 83 cents per share. Revenues for the quarter increased 7% to $5.9 billion. Excluding the effect of new stores, sales rose 6.9%.

McDonald's has been reshaping its menu as US consumers look for healthier foods and to generate more enthusiasm in markets like Europe. It said sales for the Asia-Pacific, Middle East and Africa region were up 11.4%.
