Coca Cola to axe 250 Drogheda jobs

Coca Cola's parent board has today endorsed the decision by local management to close their concentrate plant in Drogheda, Co. Louth with the loss of 250 direct jobs.

SIPTU Sectoral Organiser, John King said workers were shocked at the news.

'This decision will have far reaching negative consequences for the local economy,' he said.

'The real number of job losses is likely to be in excess of 350 when contract cleaning, catering, security and construction are taken into account', he added.

SIPTU said it is very disappointed that the parent board of Coca Cola rejected a counter proposal put forward by senior staff and unions as a means of saving some of the jobs.
