Musgrave's eco-friendly HQ gets award

The Musgrave Group's new eco-friendly head office on Cork's Airport Road has won Chambers Ireland's overall award for corporate social responsibility.

At a ceremony last night the judging panel praised its design and construction for ensuring the lowest environmental impact.

The heavily-insulated building features €300m worth of 'green' energy systems but  Musgraves are confident this seven per cent extra outlay can be more than recovered over its lifetime.

After accepting the award, the Group's Environmental Executive, John Curran said that in its first year of operation, the structure had saved between €20,000 and €30,000  on energy bills alone.

RTE's campaign on road safety last year took the award for the best community-based project by a large indigenous company.

The campaign team's leader, Chief News Correspondent Charlie Bird said the honour  highlighted again the suffering of the families of the those killed and injured on our roads.

The Minister of State for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs presented awards in twelve categories at the ceremony in the Burlington Hotel in Dublin.
