Shelbourne Developments, a Dublin based property company, has unveiled its plans for what will become the tallest building in North America.
The Chicago Spire, when complete in 2011, will stand at just over 600 meters and is designed by world renowned Spanish architect, Santiago Calatrava.
It sits on a site at the junction of the Chicago River and Lake Michigan.
Dublin developer Garrett Kelleher of Shelbourne Developments is heading the project which is entirely residential.
The Spire will contain almost 2,000 apartments ranging from 50 square metres to 950 square meters. The price range will go from $750,000 to $40m.
Work has already begun on the extensive foundations at the site which involves drilling over 30 metres down into bedrock.
Last night an international marketing campaign got underway. The Chicago Spire is expected to be completed by late 2011.
