World oil prices eased today after New York crude hit a record $84.10 a per barrel on Thursday on fears that a storm could threaten energy facilities in the US Gulf of Mexico.
London Brent surged today to an all-time record of $79.34 amid supply concerns in the US, a key energy consumer, ahead of peak winter demand for heating fuel.
US crude for November delivery fell 10 cents cents to $81.68 a barrel on Friday evening.
The October US crude oil contract expired on Thursday after it hit a record for the seventh straight session at $84.10.
Dealers say trading in expiring contracts is often volatile.
