Britain's unemployment rate stood at 5.4% in the three months to July, unchanged from the three months to June.
Under the International Labour Organisation measure of unemployment, the claimant count fell by 28,000 during the three months to July to 1.65 million.
The figures mean that the number of people claiming jobless benefits in Britain fell for the eleventh successive month.
The claimant count fell by 4,200 to 852,900 in August from July - the lowest level since August 2005.
