Talks between Aer Lingus management and pilots representatives aimed at resolving the row over the airline's new base in Belfast have been adjourned but may resume as early as this Wednesday.

A spokesperson for the company said the meeting between senior management and the pilots union, IMPACT, have been adjourned pending further work on issues by the working group dealing with the discussions.

Leaving the talks, IMPACT Assistant General Secretary, Michael Landers, described today's meeting as positive and constructive adding that he was confident a resolution could be reached.

He said it would not be helpful to either side to elaborate on the content of the talks.

However he said they had not discussed Ryanair's new base in Belfast.

He added that it remained the union's position that they should have a role in negotiating the terms and conditions for staff at the Belfast base.
