The Society of the Irish Motor Industry said today that new car sales in August (9,083) were down 1% on August 2006.
However, sales of new cars for the first eight months of the year (175,130) were 5.56% up on the same period in 2006 (165,912).
SIMI CEO, Cyril McHugh said, 'Although August figures are slightly down on last year, 2007 has been a good year for the motor industry'.
He added that overall in 2007 new car sales should come in close to 190,000 - the second best year ever.
