Aer Lingus chief appeals to pilots

Pilots' dispute - Strike planned for next week
Pilots' dispute - Strike planned for next week

Aer Lingus CEO Dermot Mannion has made a direct appeal to the 480 pilots due to strike next week to call off their planned action.

Mr Mannion asked them to call of their action, saying that it was 'wholly unnecessary and would do damage to everybody's interests'.

The IMPACT union says Aer Lingus rejected a proposal to suspend its recruitment plans in Belfast and enter into talks.

The dispute centres on the airline's opening of a new hub in Belfast where the union says pilots will be employed on less favourable terms and conditions.

The strike is planned for Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.
