Japanese electronics giant Sony has said its net profit more than doubled in its first financial quarter due to strong sales of goods such as digital cameras and success at the box office.
Net profit jumped to $552m in the three months to June, while operating profit more than trebled.
The strong performance comes despite sluggish sales of Sony's PlayStation 3 video game console which is lagging behind Nintendo's Wii.
Sony maintained its forecasts for a strong recovery in profits this year after a difficult 2006 when it was hit hard by recalls of faulty computer batteries and the huge cost of developing the PlayStation 3 console.
