Talks to avert strike at Breeo Foods

Talks are taking place this afternoon between management at the Cork-based Breeo Foods and SIPTU in an attempt to avert a strike at the company tommorrow.

The talks are being facilitated by the Labour Relations Commission.

The dispute centres on a redundancy programme for 70 workers at a meat plant run by Breeo Foods at Mitchelstown in North Cork, which is due to close by the end of the year.

A SIPTU spokesman said if the talks fail to resolve the dispute, 150 workers will picket Breeo Foods' operations in Mitchelstown, Galway, Nenagh and Dublin tomorrow.

Established in 2006, Breeo Foods is a subsidiary of Reox Holdings, a company which was spun off from Dairygold Co-op last year.

Breeo Foods brands include Shaws, Dairygold, Galtee and Mitchelstown.
