Kenmare appoints new audit chair

The Board of Kenmare Resources has appointed Peter McAleer as the new Chairman of the Company's Audit Committee.

This follows the removal of Mr Donal Kinsella from that position at a special meeting of the Board today.

Mr Kinsella was deputy chairman and a director of the company.

The board meeting follows a complaint made by company secretary Deirdre Corcoran against Mr Kinsella following an incident at Kenmare's Moma mine in Mozambique in May.

Mr McAleer joined Kenmare as a non-executive director in 2001.

After an investigation, chairman Charles Carvill sought and received a written apology from Mr Kinsella to Ms Corcoran, but he also asked Mr Kinsella to resign as chairman of the audit committee, where Ms Corcoran is secretary.

A statement said Mr Kinsella's voluntary resignation 'had not been forthcoming'.
