Europe visitor numbers up, but UK falls

Central Statistics Office figures show that overseas visitors made just over 651,000 trips to Ireland in April, unchanged compared with the same month last year.

But the number of trips made by Irish people abroad was up almost 14% to 618,800.

A breakdown of the visitor numbers showed a 4.3% drop in trips from Britain to 357,600. Trips from the rest of Europe were up 7.6% to 201,700, while trips from North America and the rest of the world were 1.4% and 4.9% higher respectively.

For the first four months of the year, trips by Irish people abroad are running 16% higher than in the same period last year, while trips into Ireland are 4.3% ahead.
