Business wants Dublin Port decision

Dublin Port - Some calling for move
Dublin Port - Some calling for move

Dublin business groups are demanding that the Government make a decision on the future of Dublin Port, which is running out of capacity.

Some interest groups say they want the operation moved out of the capital, which would allow the development of port lands.

A Dublin City Council report on the future of Dublin Bay is due to be completed by the end of the month. Some political parties want at least part of the operation moved north to Bremore outside Balbriggan.

But a spokesman for Dublin Port points out that the city centre facility is still the most efficient way of distributing imports around the capital. The body wants the port extended.

Dublin Chamber of Commerce says the most important thing is that the Government makes a decision soon.
