The chairman of building materials group Grafton says there has been strong trading for the first four months of the year.
Michael Chadwick told shareholders at the company's AGM that its UK merchanting business has had a very good start of the year, helped by a strong economy and healthy housing market.
He also says there was solid growth in its Irish business, with a moderation in demand in the house building market but increased activity in the repair and maintenance sector.
Grafton also says an improved trend in its Irish DIY chain in the second half of last year has gained momentum, because of good weather and strong consumer spending.
