Biotechnology company Genzyme says it expects to create 52 jobs in Waterford by the end of this year - bringing the numbers employed there to 441.
By the end of this year the Massachusetts-based company says it will have invested over €270m at their biotechnology facility in Waterford.
The facility supplies the global market with Renagel, which is used in the treatment of chronic kidney disease, and it said sales in the first three months of this year of the drug grew 16% to €137.4m.
Announcing results today, the company said overall first-quarter sales were a record €883.2m and it now forecasts revenues of $3.6-$3.8 billion in 2007, up from $3.2bn in 2006.
Genzyme employs more than 9,000 worldwide.
