Second terminal planning hearing opens

Dublin Airport - Ryanair objecting
Dublin Airport - Ryanair objecting

Ryanair is objecting to plans for a second terminal at Dublin Airport. The airline is one of seven parties which have lodged appeals to An Bord Pleanála against the €400m development.

The Dublin Airport Authority says the new terminal is necessary to ease congestion at the airport and will cater for 15 million passengers a year.

Ryanair says the terminal is too expensive and would be in the wrong place. Local residents in Portmarnock and St Margaret's are also objecting on environmental grounds.

They say Dublin should get a second airport on a green field site. An Taisce is objecting on the basis of air pollution. The hearing before an Bord Pleanála, which opened today, is  scheduled to last two weeks.
