The chief executive of Lufthansa said today that buying Spanish national carrier Iberia would be too expensive, but that the German airline is examining all options.
Wolfgang Mayrhuber told an aviation summit that 'speculative prices are not financeable for us', referring to Iberia's market value which has soared to €3.7 billion amid persistent takeover speculation.
Both Lufhansa and British Airways, which already holds a 10% stake in the Spanish airline, have repeatedly been mooted as possible buyers.
Lufthansa was examining all possible takeover opportunities, but a deal 'would have to make sense for both parties,' he said.
