Official figures show that the euro zone economy grew by 2.7% last year, an upward revision from the previous estimate of 2.6%.
The figures came from the EU's Eurostat data agency. The growth rate, the fastest pace since the beginning of the decade, marked a strong rebound from 2005 when the euro zone economy expanded by 1.4%.
The euro zone enjoyed a spurt of growth in the final three months of last year thanks in large part to a strong performance in Germany, Europe's biggest economy, and Italy.
