IRAN ROW STIRS UP OIL MARKET - Stephen Flood of financial services company Gold and Silver Investments has said the abduction of 15 British sailors was having a significant effect on the oil market, with prices now up at $62.50 a barrel.

He also said the fall-out from defaults on sub-prime mortgage lending in the US could also spill over into other markets.

Mr Flood said there was a degree of confusion in the markets on the position of the head of the US Federal Reserve Ben Bernanke. He said markets could previously interpret Alan Greenspan's comments fairly clearly.

Mr Flood said gold, which is usually seen as a safe haven, was doing well in the current volatility, trading at $659 an ounce, compared with a recent high of $685.
