Sales at convenience store chain Centra rose by 17% last year to €1.2 billion, its national conference in Killarney, Co Kerry, was told today.
During the year, Centra opened 47 new stores and added more than 500 new jobs.
Managing director Donal Horgan told the 400 Centra retailers at the conference that the performance was pleasing against a backdrop of 'very competitive' market conditions.
Mr Horgan said there were plans for 37 new Centra stores in 2007, from new openings as well as transfers from other retailers. Centra is backed by Musgrave Group.
