British group Premier Foods is to sell off the Erin soup and gravy brand as part of an agreement with the Competition Authority.
The authority asked for the move in return for approval of its acquisition of British rival RHM. The authority was concerned that the buy might lead to a lessening of competition in the gravy market.
Erin employs 145 people and is based in Thurles, Co Tipperary. Premier bought the company only last year as part of its acquisition of Campbell's UK and Ireland business. Before that it was owned by Greencore.
Premier will now seek a buyer for the business. Premier is currently reviewing its business in Ireland after its recent acquisitions, which include jam and jelly maker Chivers. It said the review was continuing and workers would be kept fully informed.
