Enterprise, Trade & Employment Minister Micheál Martin has published the text of the Consumer Protection Bill 2007.
The Bill formally enshrines the National Consumer Agency in law and will be debated in the coming weeks.
It prohibits an extensive list of practices, such as misleading or acting in an aggressive way towards consumers.
The functions of the Director of Consumer Affairs will transfer to the new agency once the new legislation comes into force.
