Trade with emerging markets to increase - EI

Enterprise Ireland (EI) hopes to see the number of Irish companies with offices in China double this year.

Enterprise Ireland is currently running International Markets Week where its overseas representatives advise Irish firms of all sizes on their expansion.

EI says Irish firms are now more open to looking at opportunities in emerging markets like the Far East and South America, and that Irish software, telecoms, healthcare and construction companies could thrive in underdeveloped markets.

Gerry Murphy, Enterprise Ireland's director of international sales and partnering, says that only 4% of Irish exports currently go to emerging markets but this figure will grow this year, with services especially doing well.
