Industrial earnings increase 3.5% - CSO

Figures from the Central Statistics Office show that the average weekly earnings of industrial workers in all industries rose by 3.5% in September 2006, compared to the same month last year.

Compared to September 2005, Clerical and managerial employees saw their earnings rise 2.6%, while industrial employees had a 3.5% increase in the month.

The average industrial earnings per hour is now €14.96, compared to €14.44 in September last year. Average weekly wages in September 2006 were €600, compared to €580 in September last year.

The number of people employed in industrial jobs was 241,700 in September 2006, which was 4,700 more than the same month in 2005. Between June 2006 and September 2006, there was a decrease of 400 jobs.
