According to a new report there are now 436,000 broadband subscribers in Ireland, which means 10% of the population now have access.
According to the latest quarterly report from the Commission for Communications (ComReg) 44% of all internet subscribers now use broadband.
This compared to just 39% subscribers using broadband in the previous quarter.
Eircom's share of broadband subscriptions fell below 50% for the first time, with 49% of overall subscribers with the company.
Other broadband platforms such as cable, fixed wireless, satellite and fibre saw their share of the broadband market inch up to 27%
The report also showed that Eircom now has 72% of the fixed line market, which represents a further 2% drop in market share by revenue.
The report says there are now almost 4.5m active mobile phone subscriptions in Ireland - this means that for every 100 people there are now 106 phones.
Irish mobile subscribers talked for almost 1.8 billion minutes in the three months from July to September and sent 1.4 billion text messages. In the previous quarter subscribers talked for 1.5 billion minutes.
Over 75,000 mobile subscribers switched operator in the three months, but kept their phone number. ComReg said since the introduction of mobile number portability in June three years ago, 700,000 people have switched mobile operator and kept their number.
The report showed that one million households, or 71% of households, now subscribe to some for of pay TV service.
Last month the Central Statistics Office published figures that show in February 2006 over 58% of households in Ireland now have a personal computer or lap top, and almost 49% have an internet home subscription.
