Schering buy a drag on Bayer results

German chemicals and pharmaceuticals group Bayer has said its third-quarter earnings were affected by the acquisition of Berlin-based drug maker Schering.

Bayer said net profits fell by 35% to €320m in the period from July to September.

The German maker of Aspirin pain-killer said it posted €139m in one-off charges in the three-month period, largely related to the acquisition of Schering.

Excluding exceptional items, underlying profit as measured by  earnings before interest and tax (EBIT), rose by 22% to €798m. Third-quarter sales were up 26% at €7.8 billion.
