The Competition Authority has approved the State forestry company Coillte's acquisition of Weyerhaeuser Europe's facility in Clonmel. Both companies are involved in manufacturing wood products.
Under the relevant legislation, the authority must determine whether the deal will 'substantially lessen competition' in the sector.
The Competition Authority said that its investigation examined the effect on competition across a range of related markets in the sector.
Its decision that it does'nt lessen competition comes after a preliminary and a second phase investigation announced in September.
