Just over 83,790 Personal Retirement Savings Accounts (PRSAs) had been taken out by the end of September, according to quarterly figures from the Pensions Board.
Of the 83,790 PRSAs taken out, 64,111 are Standard PRSAs and 19,679 are non-Standard PRSAs, with a total asset value of €646.61m.
This means 5,790 new PRSAs were sold in the third quarter of 2006. 22,000 were sold in the whole of 2005.
At end of September 2006, 79,494 employers had signed up with a PRSA provider under the employer mandatory access requirements.
The data also shows that 33,274 employees have taken out PRSAs through their employer.
