According to new research from an online voucher firm, young Irish males outstrip females by 38% for online spending.
The survey from 3V Transactions Services shows that of 60,000 customers, men are the most active online shoppers with 69% of 3V's customers falling into the male bracket between the ages of 21 and 30.
However, female consumers remain the larger group for single voucher purchases. Launched a year ago, 3V vouchers enable customers to purchase goods and services online without using a credit or debit card, or a bank account.
Kieron Guilfoyle, CEO of 3V Transaction Services, says the research highlights the big demand for an alternative to the traditional credit card.
'The fact that 33% of our customer base also have a credit card, highlights that savvy Irish consumers view the 3V voucher as the most secure option for online shopping in terms of data protection and controlled spending,' he added.
The most popular websites for purchases include Ryanair, Aer Lingus & Aer Arann, music and entertainment sites such as Play.com, Ticketmaster and I-tunes and motor tax online.
