The Irish League of Credit Unions has launched a nationwide campaign to tackle the problem of moneylending.
The campaign aims to inform people who feel forced to use moneylenders that they have other alternatives, such as their local credit union.
According to figures quoted by the Irish League of Credit Unions, almost two out of every five people at post offices around the country on Welfare Payment days are currently using a moneylender.
The ILCU has said that it is determined to tackle the moneylender issue. According to the ILCU, legal moneylenders can charge up to 188.5% interest, while illegal moneylenders charge even higher rates.
