Seasonally adjusted Central Statistics Office figures show that the number of people working in industry rose by 1,600 in the three months from March to June. The annual increase was 5,400.
Industrial employment stood at 241,600 in June, the highest figure for two years.
Separate figures showed that average weekly industrial earnings in June were up 4.3% compared with a year earlier.
