Strong July growth in visitor numbers

Central Statistics Office figures show that overseas visitors made 839,200 trips to Ireland in July, up 7.4% on the same month last year.

There was solid growth in all categories, with visits from Britain up 7%, and those from North America 6.2% ahead. Other Europe showed growth of 8.2%, while other areas were up 10%.

For the first seven months of the year, overseas visits were 12% ahead of the same period last year at 4.34 million.

The number of trips abroad made by Irish residents in July was 8.4% higher at 778,100, while the seven-month figure was up 11.2% at 3.95 million.
