125 jobs to go in Unilever closure

Unilever Ireland is to close its manufacturing plant in Inchicore in Dublin by the end of March next year, with the loss of 125 jobs.

The Inchicore facility makes Knorr soups and sauces and Hellmann's mayonnaise and also blends and packs Lyons Tea.

Unilever said the decision to close was taken after a review of its manufacturing operations across Europe. This concluded that the plant 'could not compete effectively' with larger and more specialised plants.

Products made in Inchicore will be transferred to other sites in Europe. Unilever continues to employ 450 people in Ireland.
