A new report on the quality of service performance of An Post shows that 73% of standard mail was delivered within one working day throughout the country in the second quarter of 2006, compared with a target of 94%.
According to communications regulator ComReg, this represents a 5% drop in service quality over the same period last year.
69% of mail posted in Dublin for nationwide delivery was delivered within one day, while the figure for mail posted outside Dublin was 77%.
The ComReg report reveals that 97% of all mail was delivered within three working days. This is still short of the ComReg target of 99.5% but the regulator said this was the first suggestion of improvement in the last 12 months.
ComReg said it wanted to understand the apparent decline in performance for mail originating in Dublin, and asked whether there were any particular problems in the capital which may be contributing to the poor performance.
