Pre-tax profits at building contractor Sisk more than doubled to €85.4m last year, according to the company.
Turnover increased by more than 30% compared with 2004 to €1.5 billion. The company said it had diversified into a number of non-construction businesses and was seeking 'high-quality' acquisition opportunities.
Of the 2005 turnover, €1 billion came from John Sisk & Son in Ireland, while the UK division accounted for €380m. The company also has an Irish civil engineering division.
Sisk has diversified into other businesses such as healthcare equipment, medical devices and property investment. It also owns electrical appliances distributor Origo.
