Oil prices stage slight recovery

World oil prices clawed back some ground this evening after US crude had tumbled to a six-month low under $60 a barrel on news of surging US stockpiles of heating fuel. But analysts said the downward price trend was expected to continue due to easing global supply concerns.

New York's main contract gained 31 cents to $61.05. The October contract had hit $59.80 - the lowest level since March 21 - before its expiry at Wednesday's close.

In London, Brent North Sea crude for November delivery jumped 60 cents to $61.07, after falling as low as $60.31 on Wednesday.

Analysts said that a combination of factors, including cooling economic growth in major consumer the US, have helped  ease speculative froth in the oil market.
