A total of 157 jobs are to go at Braun Oral B Ireland Limited in Carlow. 97 permanent jobs and 60 temporary jobs will be lost at the plant.
Braun is the biggest manufacturing plant in the town and at one stage employed 1,400 people.
The company, which manufactures personal care products, said today that this decision is as a result of a very thorough global company review.
SIPTU representative Michael Brown said the jobs are going to Mexico and Eastern Europe and he said that SIPTU members can not compete with wage rates in those countries.
Once these job cuts take effect, there will be approx 300 working in the factory in Carlow.
